Capitol Bake Off Benefits the Hawaii Meth Project

Capitol Bake Off Benefits the Hawaii Meth Project

Representative James Tokioka (D-HI 15th District) of Kauai hosted the 2nd Annual Bake Off at the Hawaii State Capitol with proceeds benefiting the Hawaii Meth Project. Contestants entered their tasty treats to be judged by a celebrity chef panel consisting of Alan Wong, Roy Yamaguchi, Kelvin Ro, and Hiroshi Fukui. The baked goods also had to stand up to customers, who could purchase the treats once the judges had their chance to vote. Proceeds collected from the sale of the goods were donated directly to the Hawaii Meth Project. Contestants also had to provide an answer to the question, “What does the Hawaii Meth Project mean to you?” Winners were chosen by a combination of points awarded from the chefs’ scores, buyer’s choice votes and the contestants’ individual responses to the Hawaii Meth Project’s question.

Kauai officials report 10th drowning of the year

HANAPEPE, KAUAI (HawaiiNewsNow)- Rescue officials have confirmed that Kaua'i's tenth drowning occurred Thursday night off Glass Beach in 'Ele'ele, when a man died while spear fishing with friends.

He has been identified as John-Eric Parinas.

According to a preliminary police report, the 35-year-old 'Ele'ele man was diving in waters off Glass Beach at around 9 p.m., when he apparently experienced a muscle cramp and attempted to make his way to shore.

While walking along a rock ledge, Parinas was reportedly swept away by waves. Friends then located him underwater and brought his unresponsive body to shore and performed CPR while awaiting medical assistance.

Firefighters located the victim down a rocky cliff and navigated through rough surf to carry him out of the area on a Stokes litter. Medics then transported him to Kaua'i Veterans Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
