Goodwill Offers Free Tax Services on Kauai | Business

Most tax returns are due in one month. Goodwill Industries of Hawaii continues to hold free VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) tax clinics for individuals and families who earned less than $50,000 in 2011.

Community volunteers, including Goodwill employees, donate their time to help tax clinic participants prepare and file their taxes at no cost. Only certified Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Tax Preparers may assist taxpayers in preparing and e-filing their taxes. On-line/Self Study Training can be located on the IRS website.

Last year in Hawaii, over 105,000 individuals and families claimed over $215 million in Earned Income Tax Credit.  Only four out of five eligible workers claim this valuable credit.  Through its program, Goodwill Industries of Hawaii wants to raise that number to five out of five.  For the last six years, Goodwill has provided free tax preparation services to those who qualify.
