Hawaii Meth Project Announces Winner of Special Meth Award in the HMSA’s Teen Video Contest

Student from Kapaa High School Top Winner with “Goals” Video 

HONOLULU—May 9, 2013—Last night, at a Hollywood-themed red carpet event, the Hawaii Meth Project joined the Hawaii Medical Service Association (HMSA) to honor and congratulate Hawaii teens who participated in this year’s HMSA Teen Video Awards Contest, including Kaylee Silva from Kapaa High School, who won the special Hawaii Meth Project award. For the fourth year in a row, the Hawaii Meth Project has partnered with HMSA to increase awareness about the risks of methamphetamine by hosting a special award in the addiction prevention category within the Teen Video Awards Contest, honoring videos dealing specifically with meth.

HONOLULU – Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii (RMHC-Hawaii) is asking schools, businesses, clubs, community organizations and individuals to “Make Change Count” by participating in its coin campaign to raise funds for many families in need.

“The Ronald McDonald House was built with love for hundreds of families with severely ill children that walk through our doors every year,” said Jerri Chong, president of RMHC-Hawaii. “A few cents from many can go a long way, and with everyone’s help RMHC-Hawaii will continue to Make Change Count.”

Kilohana Elementary Principal Richard Stevens was named a semi-finalist in the ninth annual Masayuki Tokioka Excellence in School Leadership Award at the annual Public Schools of Hawaii Foundation Dinner held on April 11th at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Coral Ballroom on Oahu.  Farias received $3,000 in total cash awards from the Island Insurance Foundation. 

The award, named in honor of the late Masayuki Tokioka, founder of Island Insurance Company, Ltd., is presented to a public school principal who is visionary, community-minded, and has an entrepreneurial spirit – qualities of leadership that Tokioka exemplified in his own company and in the business community.

Customers who earn Gas Rewards by shopping with their Safeway Club Card at Safeway stores will now be able to use their Rewards for up to 20 cents off per gallon when filling up at participating Chevron locations in Hawaii. Hawaii Meth Project and Kauai High School Partner to Offer Free  “Spray Away Meth” Art Workshops

Middle and High School Students Invited to Learn from Aerosol Artist East3 to Create Anti-Meth Murals, March 21-22, 2013

Students took Meth prevention into their own hands today by participating in free “Spray Away Meth” art workshops sponsored by the Hawaii Meth Project and Kauai High School.  The workshops were available to all middle and high school students on Kauai and featured world-renowned aerosol artist East3, who demonstrated his craft and provided the students with instruction on drawing techniques, basic design, and contemporary urban art.  During the workshop students created their own murals centered on anti-Meth themes and messages.  The murals will be displayed at schools around Kauai as an island-wide effort to raise awareness about the dangers of Meth.
