Tropic Care Kaua'i 2012 Medical Clinics Offering Four More Days of Free Healthcare Services

The following information is provided by the Department of Health:

In just six days, Tropic Care Kaua‘i 2012 military reservists have provided free health services to nearly 5,000 participants in need of medical attention. Despite  recent severe weather, the clinics will continue in operation through Friday.

Heavy rains suspended operations at 11 a.m. Monday, March 5, at the Tropic Care clinic site at All Saints Episcopal Church in Kapa‘a. However, the Kapa‘a site has since re-opened at 8 a.m. today, March 6. The Hanapepe and Kaua‘i Community College sites remain open during scheduled clinic hours, and all sites will provide services until the end of the medical mission at noon Friday, March 9.

The full range of optometry services will be offered at all clinics for the entire clinic schedule, including vision tests to make single focus eyeglasses. Participants will be informed on when and where they may pick up their finished eyeglasses. After Tropic Care shuts down, the Department of Health will distribute eyeglasses from sites to be announced.

TUESDAY: All clinics opened at 8 a.m. An evening function honoring the deployed personnel requires the early closing of all clinic sites on Tuesday, March 6. Participants should plan to arrive early that day, as the last registrations will be accepted at 1:30 p.m. and clinical services will be completed before 3:30 p.m.

WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY: The clinics will open at 8 a.m. Persons coming to the clinics are advised to arrive early because clinics will stop admitting new participants at 5 p.m. in order for all clinical procedures to be completed before 7 p.m.

FRIDAY: The last day of Tropic Care Kaua‘i 2012 clinical services will be Friday, March 9. Clinics will cease operations at noon. Participants are advised to arrive at the clinic sites before 10 a.m. so they will be able to receive services by the noon closing.

On Friday, March 9, dental services at all clinics will be limited to cleanings and dental exams. No extractions or restorations will be performed.

Detailed information on all of the above is available by calling the Public Health Nursing Section, Kaua‘i District Health Office, at (808) 241-3387.
