Feasibility study to be conducted on proposed adolescent drug treatment facility

The following information is provided by the County of Kauai:

LĪHU‘E – County officials today announced the start of a feasibility assessment on the proposed adolescent drug treatment and healing facility located in Līhu'e adjacent to Isenberg Tract.

Families First Hawai'i Services, Inc. of Kōloa was awarded a $50,000 contract to conduct the study.

The assessment will be done in phases and the final report is expected to be completed next spring.

Included in the scope of services for the feasibility study are the following elements:

 First Aid, CPR/AED.  American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED training and certification will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. The courses in this program teach skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This program offers a choice of first aid, CPR and AED courses to meet the various training needs of a diverse audience. Classes held several times a week. County asks for public’s help with proper recycling

The following information is provided by the Department of Public Works:

LĪHU‘E – A recent chemical fire in a Kaua'i Recycles bin has raised serious safety concerns for workers that handle recyclables, and has prompted officials to issue a reminder about proper recycling.

The public is urged to empty any unused product and thoroughly rinse bottles prior to recycling those that contained chemicals such as bleach or cleansers.

The following information is provided by Merriman's Restaurants:

Merriman's Restaurants is pleased to introduce its first ever companywide sustainable seafood initiative - a statewide collaboration between Merriman's and Handcrafted Restaurants including Merriman's Waimea, on the Big Island, Merriman's Kapalua, Maui, Merriman's Fish House, Poipu, Kauai, and Chef Peter Merriman's newest restaurant, Monkeypod Kitchen by Merriman in Wailea, Maui. The first companywide initiative of its kind will pledge support for the Hawaii Fish Trust Project and sustainable seafood efforts in Hawaii.

Starting August 1 - September 31, 2012 the above mentioned restaurants will offer a daily "Sustainable Seafood Special" consisting of a 3 ounce piece of wild Hawaii caught fish paired with 3 ounces of locally raised seafood or fish.
